Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be fuming with the latest developments coming from the club and will want things to be sorted out before it becomes too late.
It is no secret that the locals in the bar all want Rafa Benitez to stay on at the Magpies this summer, and would like him to sign a new deal to extend his stay past next season. The Spaniard himself has admitted he would like to remain in the north-east, however, it looks as though things could be difficult.
According to a report in the Newcastle Chronicle, Benitez is not expected to sign a new contract this summer, meaning he will head into next season with just the year left on his present deal. The former Liverpool boss wanted assurances from the board about what money he would have available to spend, however, the board seem unwilling to give him what he wants.
The locals in the Tavern will be frustrated with how things have gone over the summer and will have hoped Benitez would have been able to commit his future to the club.
The Toon Army faithful have, unfortunately, become accustomed to the ways their club has been run and will have hoped for change following their 10th placed finish in the Premier League last season.
One consolation that the punters in the bar will hope remains true is that Benitez has never broken a contract agreement with a club before, so he should remain in charge until next summer, where the locals will demand he is given what he wants in order for him to remain on Tyneside.
