Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen from French side Monaco on a loan deal which will see the ex-Chelsea and Bolton striker at Spurs till the end of the season.
The Icelandic International has not been able to find the back at the net for Monaco this season and had been subject to a move back to the Premier League throughout the current transfer window. The signing will come as a big blow to Gianfranco Zola and West Ham United in where talks where present and Gudjohnsen according to The Sun, even had a medical. This is the second time Gudjohnsen has snubbed Zola, with the Italian looking to sign him before he went to Monaco.
Gudjohnsen nicknamed the ‘Iceman’ for his cool composure in front of goal will join Spurs subject to a medical, and Spurs boss happy to get his man. He told the Sun,
“We’ve been talking about him for nearly two weeks and when we heard West Ham were interested we made our move.”
Redknapp squashed any rumours that Spurs were paying Gudjohnsen more than their London rivals to come to Spurs, he added,
‘Two identical deals were on the table. In the end it was a straight choice for Eidur.”
This will be a major kick in the teeth for his former partner Zola and the new owners who thought they had the Iceman on their books. West Ham’s co-owner David Sullivan expressed his views by saying,
“We thought we had a deal and the player had even had a medical. I can’t say I am happy about it.
