Reports in Italy are suggesting that Harry Redknapp is going to reignite his interest in Lille FC winger Gervinho. Harry was unsuccessful in his attempts during the summer transfer window to snag the £10 million rated player largely due to his involvement in the World Cup for Ivory Coast.
Gervinho, 23, has gathered interest from some of Europe’s elite over the past 2 seasons including Spurs north London rivals Arsenal. Redknapp has been impressed with the player’s positional flexibility he has featured in a forward role for Lille as well as playing as an out-and-out winger on a regular basis.
He has started the season in sparkling form for the Metropole Stadium outfit. Already bagging 6 goals to add to his haul of 18 last season. Gervinhos contract runs until 2012 but, with this current rate of interest it is unlikely he will see that out. His value of course after his performances in South Africa has soared and the £10 million quoted earlier is more likely to be pushing £15-17 million if Lilles Chairman have there way
Redknapp was quoted after the 3-2 win at Arsenal as saying “I am looking to bring people in. We need to tweak it to finish it off. I think Tottenham have a championship in the next few years.”
This suggests there are already plans afoot to bring in players of Gervinhos quality to bolster what is already one of the finest squads in the Premiership.
