Reports emerging today are linking Harry Redknapp with German international Miroslav Klose to help solve their goal scoring crisis, if this was mooted a couple of years ago I think it would be greeted with a lot of excitement, but at 32 is the forward too old? Well lets have a look.
It would initially be easy to write this off, but there a few important things to bear in mind. Firstly the striker wouldn’t cost a penny as his contract is expiring this Summer, that immediately must make it a more desirable proposition.
The age of the player has not really had much of an impact on his form, although this season he has slipped down the pecking order at Bayern Munich behind Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller he has still continued to score goals. He scored four times in last Summers World Cup and is currently the top goal scorer in the Euro qualification campaign for next Summer having scored 8 goals.
Understandably with a player of his calibre there is wide spread interest in the forward, Benfica and Juventus are also monitoring the situation and considering offers for the player who now fancies a fresh challenge at the end of his career.
Obviously it would not be a long term solution for Harry Redknapp but as a quick fix I am not sure there are many better experienced strikers out there available for nothing. The White Hart Lane management team have just sealed a new deal for William Gallas so it is clear that there are no issues with older players plying their trade at Spurs and if he could boost the side for one season I think it would be an ideal signing.
Ultimately, it is not often that you get a chance to work with a striker with the ability of Klose for nothing, and seriously could he perform any worse than the rest of the Spurs strikers in the league this season?
