Harry Wilson deserves chance for Liverpool despite transfer interest

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to see their side back in action during their pre-season friendly win over Chester.

The Reds ran out 7-0 winners in their first fixture of the new season after fielding two separate sides. Youngster Harry Wilson opened the scoring before grabbing his second goal of the game before half-time.  James Milner converted from the pen spot after the break and strikes from Ryan Kent, Daniel Sturridge (2) and Danny Ings completed the rout.

Jurgen Klopp gave debuts to new signings Fabinho and Naby Ketia who both looked good in their first showing in a Liverpool shirt. The German will be impressed with plenty of performances, especially Sturridge who looked sharp in front of goal. Wilson’s display will also give the boss plenty of food for thought heading into the final weeks of the transfer window.

Klopp wants a new winger to provide competition for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, but he might already have the solution to his problem in the Welshman. Valued at £900k by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old joined Hull on loan in January and instantly became a crucial player for the Tigers. He netted seven goals and notched three assists in just 13 Championship appearances.

Liverpool will have plenty of loan offers for the youngster. However, he may be best served staying at the club. Capable of either wing, the Welsh international has a role to play on Merseyside and should be given a chance to shine at the highest level.
