According to the ‘Evening Chronicle’, Harry Redknapp is keeping a close eye on Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.
The Netherlands international has been instrumental to Newcastle’s tremendous start to the season and his performances have earned him a spot in the Dutch national squad. His heroic saves have been a breath of fresh air to watch this season, which has certainly been noticed at the Lane.
Tottenham’s only draw of the season came at Tyneside when the two clubs met earlier in the season which Krul played a huge helping hand in the score finishing at 2-2.
Spurs currently have three goalkeepers- Gomes looks certain to leave after complaining about lack of opportunity, while Spurs’ two veteran keepers Friedel and Cudicini won’t last forever. Redknapp wants to bring in someone young and exhilarant with an eye on having a long term future with the club.
A close source to Tottenham said: ‘Tim’s form has been outstanding this season and he has caught the eye of Tottenham. They are looking for new blood in the goalkeeper department.’
Krul is contracted to Newcastle until 2014 and manager Alan Pardew would want the club to reject any bids that come in for his star player. Krul is definitely a player that Newcastle will have to hang on to, if they want to be ambitious in finishing high this season.
A move in January doesn’t look likely as both goalkeepers are enjoying life with their respective clubs. While Krul looks like he has a smile on his face every time he steps onto the pitch with his heroic saves, Friedel is looking like a player that has been playing in a Tottenham shirt for years. A move however could further escalate in the summer, especially at the rate Krul is playing at.
