With the rumours of Demba Ba’s January exit from Newcastle still circulating, Magpies boss Alan Pardew may have already turned his attentions to Bosnian striker Vedad Ibisevic.
Ba’s future on Tyneside has been in serious doubt since talks between him and the club over a new contract broke down as the Senegalese is holding out for a huge wage rise.
The Newcastle striker looks set for a move to Liverpool in the new year as Brendan Rodgers is looking to activate Ba’s £7million buy-out clause in his contract to take him to Anfield.
With Newcastle’s star striker seemingly on the move, Pardew will have to think carefully about his replacement and is already weighing up a move for Stuttgart striker Ibisevic.
The 28 year old forward has enjoyed a world-spanning career that has seen him ply his trade in the United States, Switzerland and France before enjoying his most successful period in Germany for Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.
With 88 goals in 228 career games, Ibisevic has a decent record in front of goal and could be a decent signing for Alan Pardew as he is a player in his prime that could add something new to Newcastle’s front line.
The Bosnian has good pace, capable of beating defenders and a good eye for goal and is certainly a striker that could be prolific with good service.
Ibisevic just seems to have that knack of being in the right place at the right time and could really be a good replacement for Ba’s departing goal threat.
He is very similar in style to West Brom’s Shane Long and if he adapts to the Premier League as well as the Irishman has then the Toon Army could be onto a winner with Ibisevic.
Having only been at Stuttgart for less than a year, Newcastle may have to deal out a hefty sum to take the striker away from Germany but Ibisevic would be a valuable addition on Tyneside.
Perhaps the snag in the deal could be Ibisevic’s participation in the Europa League for Stuttgart as it would leave him cup tied for the rest of the competition if he did move to Newcastle.
This could be enough to persuade Pardew to look elsewhere but on the whole Ibisevic would be a good choice to replace Demba Ba and could be a Premier League star in the making.
