‘He Can’t Take The Criticism And He Wants Out’

Despite an impressive individual performance capped with a goal against West Ham over the weekend, it seems Liverpool right back Glen Johnson may be leaving the club come January.

Hotly tipped favourites for his signature are Inter Milan with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez on some seemingly hell-bent mission to resign all of his former team.

Johnson has told friends he fully expects to move in January following some recent criticism from boss Roy Hodgson. Adding fuel to the fire is Liverpool’s continued interest in Rennes’ defender Rod Fanni.

The French right back could come in at just £3million and given Johnson’s (in my opinion) ludicrous valuation of £17million, profit becomes a definite selling point. Furthermore, cutting Johnson’s outrageous £90’000 p/w wages down could save them even more for the new year. There is a lot of money to made.

It has also been rumoured that Johnson is learning Spanish in preparation for the move away. Real Madrid are currently in the market for a right back, but given Mourinho is at the helm at the Bernabeu now, I would deem it unlikely given the two didn’t see eye to eye at Chelsea.

If Johnson joins Inter though, where would he play? Despite a rather televised humiliation by Gareth Bale, you could hardly expect Johnson to start in front of Maicon. So he’ll be either warming the bench or converting right midfield (where he probably should be playing in reality) replacing an ageing Javier Zanetti.

That said, a lot may hinge on the future of Rafa Benitez at the San Siro. The European Champions languish in 6th, 9 points behind leaders AC Milan. Benitez will need to prove his worth before any pricey acquisitions are made. Although, Hodgson may find himself in a similar boat himself come the new year.
