‘He didn’t handle the pressure though’ – Newcastle fans baffled by comments regarding ex-manager

Newcastle United supporters have been in low spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side go down 1-0 to Burnley on Monday night, thus suffering a fourth Premier League defeat of the campaign.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the Clarets off the back of a three-match unbeaten run, having drawn against both Liverpool and Southampton before beating Crystal Palace 1-0 in their preceding encounter. But they were unable to keep their solid run going at Turf Moor as a Jeff Hendrick strike 16 minutes from time was enough to seal a narrow 1-0 success for Sean Dyche’s side, a result which moved them above the Magpies and into seventh in the Premier League table.

Thus, there has been a downbeat mood among our resident Newcastle fans in the Tavern this week, but several are already putting Monday’s match out of their mind and are instead looking ahead to their crucial clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, where Benitez’s men will hope to record a fifth league win of the campaign.

Nonetheless, there have been some things for Magpies fans to get their teeth into this week, not least a recent report from BBC Scotland which included quotes from Peter Grant, formerly an assistant of ex-Newcastle boss Alan Pardew.

Pardew spent four years on Tyneside between 2010 and 2014 and of course led the club to a fifth place finish in the Premier League back in the 2011/12 campaign, but has been out of work since losing his job at Crystal Palace back in December of last year.

However, Grant reckons that Pardew’s experiences as Newcastle boss, specifically being ‘under severe pressure’, is tailormade for the vacant managerial role at Rangers, although they are quotes which have somewhat baffled several Magpies supporters on Twitter…
