Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad to see Unai Emery get the club’s transfer business kickstarted with two new faces arriving at the Emirates.
Emery was announced as Arsene Wenger’s successor and wasted no time in revamping the squad. Stephan Lichtsteiner became the Spaniard’s first signing at the club, joining from Juventus on a free transfer to add competition at right-back. Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos is expected to complete a £16m move later in the week.
The Gunners must continue to spend in they are to challenge Manchester City for the title next season. With Petr Cech approaching the end of his career, his form is starting to decline. Therefore, Emery should look to add a new goalkeeper to his squad to replace the former Czech Republic international.
One man he should consider is Inter Milan shot-stopper – Samir Handanovic. The 33-year-old has established himself as one of the best ‘keepers in the Serie A during his time with the Nerazzurri. He featured in every game for Inter last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in the league. Valued at £7.65m by Transfermarkt, he would be an excellent signing for Arsenal.
Handanovic is not a long-term replacement for Cech but is the ideal candidate to fill his boots until a younger goalkeeper becomes available. In terms of talent, there are few goalkeepers in the world who are better. Inter are currently struggling to meet financial fair play regulations and are in the market for a new goalkeeper meaning Arsenal could pick him up on the cheap.
