The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things from Victor Lindelof…
The defender moved to Manchester from Benfica over the summer, and given how highly-rated he was in Portugal, big things were expected.
However, in reality, he has found his start to life at his new club very slow. In a similar vein to Henrikh Mkhitaryan last season, Jose Mourinho has used Lindelof very sparingly thus far, with his adaptation to his new league taking longer than expected.
This has, unsurprisingly, drawn a fair amount of criticism, and now the defender has seen fit to discuss his own personal start to the season.
Speaking to Swedish publication Expressen earlier this week, Lindelof has revealed that he isn’t bothered about what people say about him, noting that he’s not worried about the situation.
He said: “I feel no stress. I’m in one of the world’s best clubs, it’s clear that it’s tough competition…I do not care what they [the British press] are writing”.
Discussing Mourinho, Lindelof also revealed: “We talk and have a good dialogue”.
It’s certainly a good attitude to have, and it will stand him in good stead for the rest of his career. Regardless of your age, status or form, critics are always on hand to fire criticism at players, and this maturity will bode well for Lindelof.
The Man Utd fans on Reddit have spent the last day or so discussing this, and unsurprisingly, they’ve fallen on the side of the defender. Defending him from criticism whilst praising his attitude, his response is exactly what they were hoping for.
