It’s been mentioned many times around these here parts that when it comes to their forwards, Tottenham Hotspur are in need of a rejig this summer.
Despite costing a combined £39million, Spurs triumvirate of profligate strikers ruling the forward line, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko have managed a wholly unimpressive 11 goals between them (with the Russian, Pavlyuchenko scoring 7 of those) in the Premier League this season.
Defoe, to be fair, has been injured for a large part of the season, but since returning to the team, he has scored 2 (brilliant but sadly isolated) Premier League goals, against Wolves. While Crouch has helped out here and there, particularly with assists for Van der Vaart, and has been on fire in the Champions League, his return of 2 goals from 26 games in the league is poor by anyone’s standards. And poor old Roman Pavlyuchenko, who so often is lacking in all areas and then suddenly smacks in a sweet finish (e.g. his goal against Chelsea), is the only one to have anything like a reasonable return, with 7 goals in 21 games.
We have, it seems, a problem. But if we are to solve our goal-scoring conundrum, who should Harry Redknapp bring in this summer? There are many names in the frame, some are likely, others not, and all with their own individual pros and cons.Well, here’s your chance to cast your vote… which striker do YOU think Tottenham should sign in the summer transfer window ?
Ruud van Nistelrooy – 34- Hamburg
Edinson Cavani – 24 – Palermo (on loan at Napoli)
Mario Gomes – 25 – Bayern Munich
Sergio Aguero – 22 – Atletico Madrid
Asamoah Gyan – 25 – Sunderland
Fernando Llorente – 26 – Athletic Bilbao
Karim Benzema – 23 – Real Madrid
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – 27 – Schalke 04
Giuseppe Rossi – 24 – Villarreal
Diego Forlan – 31 – Atletico Madrid
None – give youth-teamers, Mason, Kane and Obika a chance
None – stick with Crouch, Defoe and Pavlyuchenko
