‘Hero of this cup’ – Man City fans react to Guardiola’s early team news ahead of Carabao Cup final

The Manchester City fans are feeling confident in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their side’s trip to face Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium this evening.

Pep Guardiola takes his side on a short journey from Manchester to Wigan this evening to face a side that have inflicted FA Cup heartache on The Citizens in their previous two meetings in the competition. The last time the two sides were pitted against each other was in the quarter final of the FA Cup in 2014 when The Latics managed to pull off a shock 2-1 victory at The Etihad to knock City out of the competition for the second season running – just one year on from their 1-0 victory over Roberto Mancini’s side in the final of the competition.

If Guardiola wants to win all four available trophies this season then he must ensure that his City players guard against complacency this evening, especially considering their unpredictable history against Wigan Athletic.

However, Guardiola instead turned his attention towards his side’s Carabao Cup final with Arsenal yesterday afternoon, as he confirmed that Claudio Bravo will keep his place in the side between the sticks after playing a key role in City’s route to the final.

Bravo has played the full 90 minutes in all of City’s cup ties against West Brom, Wolves, Leicester and Bristol City, so his inclusion if far from surprising, even if it has been met with some concern by the expectant supporters.

Although Bravo’s performances often leave the City fans feeling uneasy, the majority have accepted that he deserves a starting berth next weekend and they have praised Guardiola for his loyalty to the Chile international.

Here’s what the City supporters on Twitter have had to say about Guardiola’s decision to start Bravo against Arsenal next weekend…
