The German media are reporting several clubs interested in goalkeeper Michael Rensing, who is currently out of contract. Although Herta Berlin and FC Cologne have made contact with the player’s representatives, it is thought that Aston Villa are the front runners in the race for his signature.
Rensing played over 50 games for Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, and has recently spent some time training with his former club in preparation for a job offer in January. Bayern’s head coach, Markus Babbel, confirmed that “he has trained well”. Kicker.de
Villa manager Gerard Houllier is thought be keen on signing a goalkeeper as current stopper Brad Friedel’s career draws to a close, and the chance to snap up a ‘keeper valued at £1.5m for free may be an offer he can’t refuse.
