The Toon Army have been in buoyant mood in the Transfer Tavern of late, now that their side have begun to put together a positive run of results.
Everything was looking very doom and gloom for the Newcastle supporters in the tavern a few weeks ago, and plenty of them could be found drowning their sorrows on our bar during the club’s extended dark patch. However, Rafa Benitez has finally managed to squeeze some positive results out of his side, and consequently, they now sit in 13th place in the Premier League, albeit only two points above the relegation zone.
The bottom half of the table is looking incredibly condensed at the moment and no side in the bottom half of the table looks safe from relegation just yet.
With that being said, Benitez should be doing everything he can to bring some new talent to St James’ Park this month to ensure that his side steer clear of a relegation dogfight this season.
However, Newcastle’s first dealing of the window could well involve one of their player’s departing the club, as Jonjo Shelvey has emerged as a shock January target for West Ham according to The Express.
Perhaps to the surprise of some, plenty of the Newcastle supporters on Twitter are calling for Shelvey to depart the club this month despite their precarious position in the league.
Shelvey’s questionable disciplinary history and inability to produce his best form on a regular basis seem to have made him an unpopular figure in recent times, and the reaction on Twitter suggests the fans would be happy to wave goodbye to the England international.
Here’s what the Newcastle supporters had to say about the potential departure of Shelvey…
Rather him gone if a replacement is going to be in place jonjos attitude makes him a huge liability

I’d swap for the right price. He’s been poor this season, more bookings than goals and assists

He's ineffective, no goals and one assist this season. If a replacement can be found good deal.

He's a liability, hes a big kid with no discipline, more bookings than goals or assists. Merino & Hayden in the CM much better partnership

I hope this is true!

Sell him but we need to get reinforcements.

No big loss in my opinion. Can't be trusted, especially in big games.
