Heung-Min Son’s Asian Games final is a reason to celebrate for Tottenham fans

Heung-Min Son is currently away from the Tottenham Hotspur squad as he captains the South Korean u23 national team in the Asian Games football tournament. The Lilywhites won’t mind losing out on their Korean livewire for a few weeks if it means he gets a gold medal and gains exemption from his country’s mandatory military service.

Son’s South Korea overcame Vietnam 3-1 in the semi-finals earlier today and they now face a final match against either Japan or the United Arab Emirates. So far, Son and co have overcome Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Iran in the knockout stages after progressing through their group, finishing second after beating Bahrain and Kyrgyzstan and losing to Malaysia, who topped their group.

Now, though, the Asian nation are just 90 minutes away from gaining exemption from mandatory military service and there will be Tottenham fans all over the world cheering on Heung-Min Son as he aims to captain his country to Asian Games glory. After unsurprisingly missing out on a top-three finish at the World Cup, the 26-year-old winger only had the Asian Games and next year’s Asian Cup to gain exemption from serving in the South Korean army.

The fans are loving watching Son’s progression through the Asian Games and will be hoping he can bring home a gold medal for his troubles.
