Heung-min Son has been making plenty of headlines in recent weeks for his performances on the international stage which ultimately helped South Korea to win gold at the Asian Games, making him exempt from mandatory military service in the process.

It's been quite the journey for Son in a life-changing few weeks, not just on a professional level but a personal one as well. But after weeks of sweating over his future he has secured exemption from military service and his career as a professional footballer will continue indefinitely.

Despite his achievement, Son has been afforded little respite in recent days as he has captained his country in two international friendlies against Costa Rica and Chile.

And according to respected Tottenham journalist Ricky Sacks, Son has finally returned to north London today where his fitness will be assessed ahead of the highly anticipated weekend fixture against Liverpool.

After such a hectic few weeks there is simply no doubt that Son would benefit from a rest, but with so much riding on Tottenham's clash with Liverpool it seems unlikely that he will be left out of the first-team squad.

Tottenham fans will now face a nervous wait for a fresh update on whether Son will be deemed fit enough for selection as he possesses the potential to single-handedly end Liverpool's 100% start to the season.

Jurgen Klopp's side have started the season with a confidence and mentality which suggests they possesses all of the necessary tools to go all the way in the Premier League this season, but the clash with Spurs will be a true test of their credentials.

Mauricio Pochettino's side looked flat in the final-third against Watford last time out, so the injection of blistering pace and dazzling dribbling which Son can provide would undoubtedly give them an extra edge going forward.

Liverpool will be determined to continue their 100% start to the season at Wembley and send out a strong message to their title rivals by taking 3 points away from the lunchtime clash, but their chances of achieving victory undoubtedly rest on whether Son is fit enough to feature for the first time this season.
