With Drogba being heavily linked to a move which will see him play in China, it looks as if a former Chelsea player might be on his way back from China to London.
Nicolas Anelka has been with Shanghai since January and has seen his move from striker develop into player-manager, but without much success. In his last 9 appearances, the Frenchman has scored only 2 goals. But, this is an improvement from his time at Chelsea prior to the move. From the start of last season to the new year, Anelka scored 1 goal in 9 appearances.
So what about his managerial record then?
Forunately for Anelka it doesn’t look too shabby. In 7 games, Shanghai have won 2 games, drawn 3 and lost 2. Whilst the results are not something he was used to seeing at Chelsea, he did help to move the Chinese side out of the relegation zone and into ninth place, out of a possible 16.
But is a move to London back on the cards?
Well according to the Daily Mail, if the club do not ask for a fee if Anelka is to leave, then yes. They are suggesting that Tottenham, QPR and West Ham are all lining up proposals to bring the 33 year old forward to their club.
But, with wages estimating to $300,000 a week, I can’t see any one of these clubs or any club for that matter, willing to pay such a huge wage bill for such little evidence in goal scoring in recent times.
