Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have quickly got another round in to sink their sorrows, after hearing an excellent target has ruled out a January transfer to United.
Manchester Evening News states that Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben has insisted he is extremely happy in Bavaria and ruled-out a return to the Premier League, where he made his name with Chelsea.
Louis Van Gaal’s desperation to add a pacy winger to his side, added to Robben’s clash with team-mate Robert Lewandowski, made this transfer seem like a genuine possibility but the Dutch international has shattered any dreams of that happening.
Speaking about his future at a supporters event, the 31-year-old World Cup finalist said:
“I never thought about a transfer. I am happy in Munich – my family is happy in Munich. My contract runs until 2017. You can’t look too far forward in football, but everything is fine at the moment – I hope things continue this way.”
Van Gaal has experience working with Robben previously at Bayern Munich, as well as with the Dutch national team, but the winger becomes the latest high-profile transfer to escape United’s clutches.
United fans, now slurring their words after too many, have conceded their club needs to target lesser-known stars rather than focusing on such unlikely deals.
