Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have had their heads turned after a highly-rated player confirmed the Blues were chasing his services.
The Daily Express confirms that Chelsea want to sign Red Star Belgrade star Marko Grujic, with compatriot and Blues midfielder Nemanja Matic informing the teenager of interest from the West London side.
Grujic, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Inter Milan, revealed the news recently but stated he will remain at Red Star until the end of the season.
“Nemanja Matic is a friend, he’s Serbian and he has been at Chelsea for over a year. He tells me that they want me.”
The Serbian U20 international is keen to remain with his current club, who sit 16 points clear on-top of the SuperLiga, but left the door open for a move to the Premier League next summer.
“Right now I am at Red Star, we are top of the table and I want to win the title here. I don’t think that I’ll be moving in January, but there’s definitely more of a chance in June.”
The 19-year-old certainly has his head screwed on correctly and fans at the bar believe he’d be a shrewd acquisition to Jose Mourinho’s side.
