£16.2m-rated Tottenham man could be willing to quit the club soon – report

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see a few incoming players over the next few weeks. Though it’s been a decent season so far, the Lilywhites have struggled to maintain the consistency that has allowed them to impress over the last couple of years, with Mauricio Pochettino facing a real test to get them back into the top four.

They’re still in a good position, though, with just 4 points separating them from 4th place. However, what they don’t need is any major departures, and according to Calcio Mercato, there appears to be a slight chance of that.

Calcio Mercato reports that AC Milan are interested in a move for Mousa Dembele, and it appears as though that interest could be replicated from Dembele’s perspective. The Belgian is said to be keen on a change of scenery, and he currently has no intention of extending his deal that runs through to the end of next season.

A move then, does not seem to be entirely out of the question, though Mauricio Pochettino will likely be hesitant to let him leave.

It can’t be denied that Dembele – who is rated at £16.2 million by Transfer Markt – has had an uncharacteristically tough time this season. He has been a consistent and hugely underrated member of the Tottenham first team over the last few years, and Mauricio Pochettino has clearly been a big fan. This season, though, Harry Winks has emerged as a contender for his position, and so the pair have had to share midfield duties for much of the campaign. Add to that the fact that Dembele has struggled with injury problems, and his current position in the Tottenham squad long-term quickly comes under fire.

A move away could allow him the fresh start that he, seemingly, is craving.

Landlord’s Verdict

Dembele has been a fantastic servant for Tottenham, but could it be the perfect time for him to depart?

He’s 30-years-old now, and so – especially with his contract due to expire in 2019 – the club aren’t likely to be able to get much of a fee come next summer.

It’s a tough one to call, and in the end, it’s likely to come down to what Pochettino is planning for the second-half of the season.
