Hijack: Manchester United should battle Inter Milan for Luka Modric’s signature

According to Di Marzio, Inter Milan agents have made contact with Real Madrid to negotiate a deal for Luka Modric.

The report states that Modric would be a dream signing for Inter Milan and that processes have been set in motion in order to attempt to make the deal happen.

If Modric were to exit the Bernabeu this summer then it would signify something of a changing of the guard for the Spanish giants, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane being the other senior figures to have already left the club.

If the Croatian were to arrive at the San Siro, then he’d be joining his fellow international teammates Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic on the books at the Serie A club.

If this development means that Real Madrid are open to offers on Modric though, then Inter Milan shouldn’t be allowed a free run to signing the midfielder.

Modric would be an asset to many major European clubs, who should all be making their interest in the World Cup Golden Ball winner known.

Manchester United should take this chance to bolster their midfield options with the addition of this world class playmaker.

The Breakdown

Jose Mourinho has already added to his midfield contingent this summer in the form of Fred, however, the Red Devils still lack an elite out and out creator in the centre of the park.

The presence of a figure like Modric would bode well for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez. The Croatian’s inclusion in the squad at Old Trafford would transform the team going forward, and would make them a much more dynamic and fluent unit.

His Premier League experience, gained during his time with Spurs, also means that Modric would have no issues in adapting to life in English football.

Transfermarkt value the 32-year-old at £22.5 million. Even if this becomes a bidding war between United and Inter, signing Modric would be worth fighting all the way for.
