FC Porto’s leading striker, Falcao, is being tracked by Liverpool in a bid to boost their striking options. It looks to be an initial 4-month loan deal valued at £1.5m, with the option to buy the player for £14m.
Columbian sensation Falcao is 24-years old and has hit an incredible 51 goals in 63 appearances for FC Porto. He finished last season as the league’s top scorer and he has proved he is a natural born goal-scorer, something David N’Gog and Dirk Kuyt clearly are not.
He will provide the assistance Fernando Torres needs if Hodgson decides on a 4-4-2 formation and he will be a great back-up player at least, should the Spaniard get injured…..again.
Falcao, nicknamed “El Tiger”, is not a typical striker to play on the shoulder of the last man though; he comes deep and links the play, a very clever player which again Torres will benefit from. Also, this gives Steven Gerrard more of a licence to track back and play more as a box to box player, rather than just sitting off “El Nino” and not getting involved.
Falcao was bought from River Plate two seasons ago for £5million and his reputation is ever growing. If Liverpool can strike a deal for him, this will certainly be the beginning of a Roy Hodgson turn around, as he started life at Anfield very slowly. Now form is picking up, new ownership is providing more funds and a top striker is in his sights.
They are 10-points off the top of the league but with a string of good results, they could be back in contention; who knows what the season holds for Liverpool?
