Crystal Palace have experienced a complete turnaround under Roy Hodgson this season, with the former England boss taking Palace into mid-table after inheriting the side when they propped up the division back in September.
Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are delighted with the work of the experienced manager, and told our landlord over a lunchtime pint that they are confident of a top half finish this season should their current form continue. However the fanatic bunch from South London are keen to see their side strengthen this month, with more creativity needed in the side to improve upon their questionable record of just twenty-one league goals this term. Someone to inject a bit of class into the midfield is what Palace fans crave this month, and our landlord cannot help but feel that Norwich City’s James Maddison would be the perfect addition to the squad.
The 21-year-old looks destined for the top, and after announcing himself on the world stage with his performances against Premier League Chelsea in their FA Cup tie and subsequent replay at Stamford Bridge broadcast live on the BBC, sides are sure to be interested in acquiring the player’s signature this month. Maddison, rated at just £1.80m on Transfermarkt, is exactly what Palace need right now, a player who could play at the tip of a midfield trident, finding space between the lines to release the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend on the wings, or Christian Benteke through the middle. However with the Canaries already having allowed fellow midfielder Alex Pritchard to leave for Huddersfield Town this month, it is very unlikely Maddison will be allowed to depart Carrow Road in the coming weeks.
However Hodgson should still try to tempt manager Daniel Farke to part with the player, and if his advances fail, he should return in the summer to ensure Maddison is lighting up Selhurst Park next season.
