It appears now that Liverpool are getting desperate. Recent rumours suggest that they are monitoring the progress of Swiss midfielder Valentin Stocker.
The Basel player, a hot prospect who can play on the wing or down the middle, has been tracked by Roy Hodgson for some time now, perhaps showing the measures that the Liverpool manager is willing to go to, to change his current squad.
Stocker himself is one of the mainstays of the Basel team, has Champions League experience and close to 100 International caps, but is he the sort of player that Liverpool need to rejuvenate their season? Is he all they can afford? Has Hodgson finally lost the plot?
Or has he pulled a Wenger-like masterstroke an unearthed a gem?
If he has, it will cost him and the NESV board £5 million.
