Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are happy to see the club securing a player’s future, which must show they have learnt from the Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez contract sagas this year, ones that led to them leaving.
Indeed, defender Rob Holding has signed a new long-term contract, which up to now the club has not mentioned how long for. Rob Holding joined Arsenal in July 2016 from Bolton Wanderers for a fairly small fee and has since gone on to make 42 appearances for the Gunners.
The centre-back has played a lot for Arsenal this season, despite some of the regulars not being happy with some of his performances at some points in the season. Although he was part of the England squad that reached the semi-finals of the European U21 Championship last year and is certainly a bright talent for the future.
With Holding now a done deal, the Gunners board will be looking to secure another one of their talents quickly to fend off any interest at all from other clubs, our landlord takes a look at which Arsenal player should be number one on the priority list of contracts…
OUR VERDICT – Aaron Ramsey
The Welshman has been in fantastic form this season and has really turned a corner at the Emirates, with him playing a major role within the first team.
He still has 18 months left on his contract but following the Ozil and Sanchez deals plus the ongoing Wilshere negotiations, the Gunners will be sure to tie up the midfield man as soon as possible. Indeed, the idea of how he’d look under a new manager is one of the most exciting things about this Arsenal right now.
He’s good under Wenger, so imagine how good he’d be under a new regime.
