‘Hope they make the first-team’ – Some Chelsea fans have been calling for club to go with youth

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been urging the club to give some of their young players’ first-team action next season following a video their club has put on Twitter of Ethan Ampadu and Izzy Brown playing football tennis at their Cobham training ground.

The young English pair both spent last season away from the Chelsea senior squad with Brown plying his trade at fellow Premier League side, Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst at just 17-years-old, Ampadu found himself playing for Chelsea’s u23 side. However, next season both players will be hoping they can get some game time for Chelsea’s first-team, be it in the Europa League, domestic cups or Premier League.

The Blues have developed a reputation for stockpiling young players, loaning them out season after season with little hope of them breaking into the Stamford Bridge first-team before selling them on for profit after they’ve developed. This isn’t always the case as Victor Moses and Andreas Christiansen have proven this season, but more often than not Chelsea don’t give much game time to their youngsters. Brown and Ampadu will be hoping they can be part of the minority that breakthrough at the Bridge.
