The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news from Het Nieuwsblad, via The Northern Echo, that both Matz Sels and Chancel Mbemba are set to leave St James Park in a joint deal worth around ten million euros to Anderlecht. The news has frustrated a number of Magpies, who don’t want to see Mbemba make his Newcastle bow with his strength, speed and defensive nouse set to be a real loss to the club.

The Newcastle fans propping our bar up will be looking forward to their second season back in the Premier League after their relegation in 2016, however, they would much rather be going into the domestic season with Chance Mbemba still at the club. Matz Sels has spent this season out on loan with Anderlecht and hasn’t been much of a loss to the Geordies with the signing of Martin Dubravka meaning that Mbemba is the real loss.
Despite this, the fans are livid that both players will be allowed to leave for such a paltry figure. In today’s market, a young centre-back like Mbemba could be going for big money if he’d been given the right amount of game time and been allowed to develop. Sadly though, Rafa Benitez hasn’t seen what all the fans believe they can see in him and he’s been left to rot behind Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune in the club’s pecking order.

£8m mbemba and £4m sels shouldn’t be accepting less than that

This would be a horrendous deal, mbemba being worth that on his own.
