Houllier Needs A Helping Hand From Sir Alex

Reports are suggesting that Aston Villas new manager Gérard Houllier is looking to his old rivals Manchester United for a January favour.

The Frenchman is looking to bring in Darron Gibson initially on loan with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

Gibson, 23, has been starved of first team opportunities at Old Trafford due to the seemingly endless great form of Paul Scholes. He is rightfully considered the natural successor to Scholes, when he does finally hang up his boots but, can he afford to keep sitting in the stands as his own career passes him by.

Gibson of course has his international career to think about as well, and realistically will not have much chance of cementing a starting berth for Trapattoni’s Irish side if he is not getting playing time in domestic football. Could this be enough to persuade the Derry born youngster his future lies away from the Red Devils.

Sir Alex will not look too favourably on this speculation and will fight at all costs to keep hold of one of his stars of the future.

Gibson is held in high regard at Old Trafford and with Scholes’ playing time diminishing he could find himself used more and more in a first team capacity from now on. There has been no comment on transfer fee as yet but, with Houllier looking to put his own stamp on Villa’s side, with the signing of Robert Pires likely to begin an influx of comings and goings at Villa Park could Gibson be tempted by the promise of first team football and being part of this new dawn at Villa.
