Aston Villa chief Gerard houllier is planning a swoop for former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko. The Juventus player has fallen down the pecking order at the bianconeri and has started just 2 Serie A games this term.
Sissoko, 25, is highly rated by Houllier after his performances in his Liverpool days, a view not shared by many Reds supporters. With Aston Villas Premiership form in decline and many fans already calling for the Frenchmans head, it is hoped Sissoko could sturdy up a Villa midfield still looking for a replacement for the energy levels James Milner gave them last season.
Although not considered a first team player at Juve, the Italian giants would still want around £6 million for the Mali international who represents back up for Claudio Marchisio.
Randy Lerner has said that he would back Houllier in the transfer market but, to what degree is yet to be decided. Luigi Delneri has been told to re-coup as much of the £8 million paid to Liverpool in 2008 as possible. It is also believed Schalke and Zenit St Petersburg are also in the running to sign the former Valencia product.
