‘Right up Ashley’s street’ – Newcastle fans give their verdict on club’s interest in Fulham man

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the exciting news that, according to The Chronicle, they could be signing Fulham’s play-off winning right-back, Ryan Fredericks on a free this summer. The defender who was controversially involved in the 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday has a contract that expires this summer, and he could be moving to St James Park for free if Fulham don’t act quickly.

On Saturday, Ryan Frederick’s started in the biggest game of his career so far. In his third season with Fulham since leaving Bristol City back in 2015, the former Tottenham man won promotion back to the Premier League with the Whites, as Tom Cairney’s first-half strike was enough to send Fulham up and leave Aston Villa wondering what could have been for another year.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Fredericks though, the 25-year-old should have been sent off for a stamp on Villa’s Jack Grealish in the first half, although the referee failed to see the incident and it went unpunished. Eventually, Fulham were down to ten-men when Denis Odoi received a second yellow card, however, the Cottagers held on for victory in football’s most expensive game, with Fredericks now on the radars of a number of Premier League clubs.
