In today’s Sun the ex Tottenham, ex England, born again crooner took out his trusty scythe and like a Royal College of Surgeons reject after eight pints and has cut out 3 of Tottenham’s World Cup charges from his own squad selection.
Of Ledley King he said, ‘I am not convinced we can take the risk of including him’.
Tommy Huddlestone, ‘South Africa will probably be too soon for Huddlestone’.
And of Michael Dawson, ‘this summer is slightly too soon’.
The idea that Matty Upson would get the nod over Dawson is at best a strange one.
King’s selection has puzzled me from the start. Clearly the player’s pronouncement that his deteriorating leg condition was ‘getting better’ was enough to convince Capello to ignore the fact he’s on his way out.
Huddlestone has proved he can go missing at a moments notice at club level, but I’d take a punt on him for this tournament simply based upon how dull the other contenders for that particular shirt are.
Do you agree with Venables, or should he stick to singing?
