There are some excited smiles and more raised eyebrows here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Gonzalo Higuain.
The Napoli forward has been linked with a move to the Premier League since his days at Real Madrid and now it seems that Brendan Rodgers has bumped him up to the top of his wishlist and will make a swoop for the Argentine in the January transfer window.
As one of our punters notes, the Reds do have Mario Balotelli but they are waiting for Daniel Sturridge to come back from an injury and in truth, they are currently struggling up top.
Higuain would cost in the region of £31.8 million and in a massive boost for Rodgers, Higuain has reportedly made Napoli and Azzurri manager Rafael Benitez aware of the fact that he would consider a move away from the Serie A side should the right opportunity come calling.
We certainly think the chance to show what he can do in the Premier League would qualify as that and he can find out all about Liverpool from his current manager!
Liverpool fans. Is Higuain the outstanding striking candidate to sign this January? What would this mean for Mario Balotelli and his future at the club? Let us know your thoughts below.
