The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side’s squad to stay together this summer. It has been a tough season for the Blues, but they can’t afford to split up. The Premier League is more competitive than ever, and so losing even one crucial player could leave Chelsea down and out in the English top flight.
A recent report from the Daily Mail, then, could not have come at a worse time. According to the Daily Mail, Eden Hazard is reportedly considering his future at Stamford Bridge – with the Belgian said to be open to swapping London for Real Madrid this summer.
The news, of course, follows Chelsea dismal display against Man City over the weekend. The Blues fell well short of expectations against the Citizens, with Pep Guardiola’s men dominating from the moment that the first whistle was blown.
Eden Hazard clearly values expressionism and the ability to attack, but Chelsea have increasingly turned towards a more defensive style as of late, and so it’s no surprise that Hazard is looking towards Real Madrid – whilst the allure of a return to the city of Madrid is also seemingly attracting Courtois.
Of course, there is still time for the Blues to turn this around – but this is still a huge worry for Chelsea.
Losing either one of Courtois or Hazard would be a seismic blow for Chelsea – but to lose both would be nothing short of a complete catastrophe.
Both players are regulars in the Blues’ first team, and so their prospective departures would be huge. Hazard is typically viewed as Chelsea’s most potent attacker, whilst Courtois has kept the Blues in games on a near-weekly basis.
Not to mention, as two of Europe’s finest players, they would be almost irreplaceable.
Conte has a huge task on his hands to turn their heads back around.
