Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in recent days after seeing their side edge past Crystal Palace 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday to round off a very memorable week for the North London outfit.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men may well have lost to Manchester United last weekend, but they soon put that behind them with an emphatic success over European champions Real Madrid on Wednesday night, a result which booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time since 2011. And although they were far from their best against Palace on Sunday, they got the three points thanks to an excellent second half strike from Son Heung-min, which was enough to move Spurs level on points with second place Manchester United in the Premier League table.
Thus, there has been many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern in the last few days after a fine week for their club, and they are likely to be even chirpier if a recent report from Sky Sports is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that the injury that forced Harry Winks out of the England squad earlier this week is not thought to be serious, and as such he may well be fit for the North London derby against Arsenal on November 18.
The young midfielder has come on leaps and bounds this season at Spurs with nine Premier League and three Champions League appearances to his name, as well as his senior debut for his country in their narrow 1-0 win over Lithuania back in September.
Yet the 21-year-old was forced off in Tottenham’s win over Palace and was subsequently ruled out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil, although recent reports suggest that Spurs fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it is not thought to be a serious injury.
And given that Harry Kane and Dele Alli have also pulled out due to injury, this news is likely to hugely reassure Tottenham fans ahead of their side’s clash with Arsene Wenger’s Gunners upon return to league action a week on Saturday.
Landlord’s verdict: There was obvious concern when Harry Winks was forced off in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday after twisting his right ankle, which unsurprisingly saw him withdraw from the England squad for their upcoming pair of friendlies.
Yet reports suggest that the injury sustained is not serious and as such the 21-year-old could indeed be fit for Spurs’ crunch clash with North London rivals Arsenal on November 18, although he would likely have been looking forward to staking his claim for an England place with games against Germany and Brazil in the coming week.
But if he continues to perform as he has done for Tottenham between now and the end of the season, Winks shouldn’t have too much to worry about with regards to getting a place on that plane to Russia.
