African strikers Lacina Traore and Papiss Demba Cisse could be heading for the Premiership if Fulham boss Mark Hughes gets his way, but Liverpool may be out to stop him.
‘Sparky’s’ worries about Andy Johnson’s goalscoring ability and Bobby Zamora’s long-term fitness have lead to Hughes looking elsewhere and in Traore and Cisse they may just have found their men.
Both strikers will be available at around the £3m mark and if Hughes might well be able to make a profit if he wants to get rid of 29-year old Johnson, who has never been prolific since leaving Crystal Palace.
25-year old Papiss Demba Cisse has exploded to prominence this season with 11 goals in 15 games for Bundesliga side Freiburg, performances that catapulted him into the Senegalese side for the first time where he has a now incredible 5 goals in just 4 caps. A record which will surely mean Hughes will have to react quicker than he used to for one of his trademark volleys or Cisse’s price will escalate out of the Cottagers price range.
However, Traore’s performances in the Champions League with Romanian side Cluj will surely have caught the eye and the big upside with Traore is the fact that the Ivorian is just 20. However, Hughes now faces big competition for his signature from Liverpool after Kenny Daglish was spotted at Cluj’s game against Bayern Munich?
So will Sparky get his man or will Traore be Anfield-bound? And will they ‘Spark’ alight the Prem, or flop like their namesakes Djibril and Djimi?
