According to reports in the Daily Mail FC Porto are prepared to turn down any offer from Chelsea which does not meet the £85m release clause in their Brazilian stars contract.
Porto’s chairman Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has rubbished reports his club are close to finalising a deal with Chelsea for Hulk stating:
“I’ve said before we will not sell Hulk, therefore Chelsea must activate his contract”.
The Brazilian forward is under contract at Porto until 2016 but the players agent recently stated:
“We know there is lots of interest from Europe, but the player has told me privately that Chelsea is his preferred destination”.
It is thought a big marquee signing such as Hulk would ease the pressure from the Chelsea fans on AVB, but I think would Chelsea fans really be happy if there club paid £85m for a player who has only 2 international caps, bearing in mind, this would mean Hulk would have cost £5m more than Ronaldo who is considered the 2nd if not the best player in the world.
There is no doubting Hulk’s talent but this valuation seems absurd for a player who is yet to light up the International stage or even shine in the Champions League. He has a good record in Portugal but with all due respect to the Portuguese league the Premier League is a major step up.
To spend £85m on a relatively unproven player at the top level would be ridiculous, considering £85m would get Chelsea 3 maybe 4 proven quality Premier League players such as Steven Fletcher of Wolves.
I understand Chelsea want marquee players and world superstars but are these players always worth the money? Chelsea fans should look at Fernando Torres who Chelsea splashed £50m on before they demand more big money signings.
