Quoted by The Daily Mail, Hull City manager Mike Phelan has said that Michael Dawson harbours the ambition of returning to the England set-up, with our resident Tigers fans here in the Transfer Tavern seeing no reason why he can’t.
The 32-year-old centre-half returned from injury last night for the Tigers as they beat Bristol City in the EFL Cup to reach the quarter final stage, but he has not played for England since a 2-0 win over Wales in the EURO 2012 qualifiers.
Phelan said, however: “Michael’s played at the highest level and he still wants to play at the highest level. He’s a good guy, he’s been there and seen it and he knows what it takes to win football matches.”
The Hull captain has had to sit on the sidelines whilst his team have seen their form go from impressive at the start of the campaign to fairly poor, but he is back and will now try to get them back on track.
The Tigers play Watford this weekend and are level on points with Middlesbrough who currently occupy 17th place, and the Hull fans have a renewed sense of optimism with Dawson back fit.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks this is an outlandish claim, and can’t see Dawson getting anywhere near the Three Lions squad at present!
Mixed opinions here in the Tavern on this one!
