Hull City star snubbed Champions League to seal Tigers switch

Hernandez.jpgThe fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are having a little chuckle after new Hull City forward Abel Hernandez described his move to the Humberside club as a dream.

The majority of the regulars in the tavern have, unfortunately, been to Hull and many of them are joking that he must be crazy!

However according to Sky Sports, the Uruguayan international was referring to his move to the Premier League being a dream rather than the destination.

The striker revealed that he rejected a move to Champions League qualified Benfica to sign with the Tigers on deadline day in a deal worth a club record £9.5 million.

The 24-year-old had spent the last five seasons with Italian side Palermo but admitted he was keen for a new challenge in England.

“I had six years at Palermo. I lived beautiful and ugly moments and it was time for a change. I can’t wait to start,” he said:

“I have gone to the best league in the world. Benfica wanted me too but I wanted the Premier League and it will be a wonderful experience.

“I’m ready to play in England, it has always been my dream. I thank Hull City for opening the door to me. I hope to repay their trust.

“I signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year. I will do my best to achieve all the goals, the first is survival.”
