Quoted by The Hull Daily Mail, after speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Hull City defender Harry Maguire has said that he hopes the club tie Josh Tymon down on a long term contract with Arsenal and Everton reportedly linked.
The comments came after the Tigers beat Bristol City in the EFL Cup, a game in which Tymon featured as a wing-back in a 3-5-2, and they have certainly pleased our resident Tigers fans here in the Transfer Tavern.
Maguire said: “[Having not played much] You’re not match-sharp, but Josh was unbelievable. He was probably the best player on the pitch. For a 17-year-old, who has just got thrown in the deep end playing left-back, probably not played much there in his life, other than the away trip to Arsenal. Fair play to him, he’s got a big future ahead of him and we can keep hold of him to be successful with us.”
Tymon is a local lad who has been at the Tigers since the age of twelve and has featured for the England U17’s with whom he is now a regular.
He’s featured in the cup competitions for City before but never in the Premier League but that could change if manager Mike Phelan was also impressed with his performance, ahead of the game against Watford this weekend.
Hull are in the relegation zone, but are level on points with Middlesbrough who occupy the last spot of safety in the table right now.
Our landlord has seen Tymon play a number of of times and thinks the youngster has an incredibly bright future in professional football, and tips him to join an elite club in England within the next few years.
