Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s future has been the subject of much speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern, but Jamie Sanderson of Metro doesn’t expect the Dutchman to be making a move to the Premier League any time soon.
Huntelaar has been a transfer target for Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham over recent weeks but German news agency Der Westen says Huntelaar has agreed to extend his contract with Schalke until 2016.
‘Huntelaar has decided to renew Schalke contract, details to be announced in the coming days,’ the paper tweeted.
Huntelaar’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he would be available for as little as £6 million in January – a relative bargain for a player that has a fearsome strike record for Schalke, currently sitting on 42 league goals in 72 appearances for the Gelsenkirchen-based outfit.
The news will be a particularly big blow for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, who had made Huntelaar his number one transfer target.
