‘I would rather have Wenger’ – Arsenal fans are expecting the worst as manager reports emerge

For the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, this summer is their most important in years. After all, the departure of Arsene Wenger is likely to have a huge impact, whilst it’s also clear that a bit of a shake-up is needed at the Emirates in terms of the playing staff.

Who will succeed Arsene Wenger is, naturally, dominating the conversation of all Arsenal fans at the moment, and with good reason. Though his success has diminished in recent years, he’s left a gulf in the heart of the Arsenal squad, and that won’t be easy to fill.

Mikel Arteta, according to the Independent, is being lined up as his replacement at present, with a deal said to be edging closer.

The Spaniard, who of course used to play for the Gunners, is a popular man amongst fans, but it’s fair to say that the reaction to the news has been far from unanimously positive.

Indeed, a big point of contention for fans is his lack of experience. Arteta has been crucial for Pep Guardiola this season as one of his assistants, but a move to Arsenal would represent his first managerial role – and so it’s undoubtedly a risk for Arsenal.

That, it seems, is a big reason why so many of the Arsenal fans on Twitter aren’t entirely behind the idea of the deal. Indeed, one has even suggested that they’d rather have Arsene Wenger, and that says all you need to know.

Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
