Ideal Xmas XI: Newcastle United

Ideal Xmas XI: Newcastle United - Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been rather inconsistent throughout the current campaign, so they’ll need to improve if they are to get where they want to be.

Rafa Benitez is currently light on options at the pinnacle of the attack and could do with bringing in a couple of midfielders to help provide quality and sure things up. So, with the January transfer window and Christmas period now here, the Spaniard must already have a list of targets drawn up, despite the ongoing takeover speculation.

The Magpies have already had to deal with a number of injuries in the current campaign, but anything goes in terms of the ideal XI as injuries and potential departures are thrown out the window.

Therefore, here’s a look at what Newcastle United’s ideal Xmas XI would look like…

Martin Dubravka has been one of the shining lights for Newcastle United in the current campaign, as he continues to ensure consistency in-between the sticks.

Indeed, Jamaal Lascelles has found it difficult to deal with the opposition at times but he will still play a huge part in the rest of the current campaign. Also, the likes of Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez have defied expectations as they continue to work tirelessly at the heart of the defence.

Jonjo Shelvey has suffered through injury at times this season but he hasn’t let it affect his performances on the field as he continues to pull the strings. Meanwhile, Ki Sung-yueng has really come into his own at St James’ Park after leaving Swansea City, with the possible addition of prolific central midfielder Michael Travnik helping in attack.

Deandre Yedlin has been very impressive in the current campaign, but with the way Benitez is now setting his side up, Matt Ritchie’s dangerous crossing ability would be much better suited on the right. And, with Kenedy struggling to have an impact on proceedings, perhaps the Magpies should look to firm up their interest in Yacine Brahimi, who is an exciting winger that knows how to find the back of the net.

Lastly, Ayoze Perez is slowly starting to build up ahead of steam in the current campaign, but Newcastle simply have to turn their attention to Miguel Almiron, who has been on absolute fire over in the MLS. And, leading the line for the Magpies will be Salomon Rondon, who has managed to cure Newcastle’s goalscoring problems.
