Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for a better summer window than the previous two disasters, especially if the out of favour Michy Batshuayi brings them in extra money for the transfer war chest.
The Belgian striker moved to Borussia Dortmund in search of a confidence boost and to find regular first-team football again, after struggling to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. He made himself an instant fan favourite by bagging five goals in his first three games.
He since has had a season-ending ankle injury which is putting his World Cup hopes at risk. However, our punters are talking about Dortmund’s desire to have the £50m-valued striker on their books full time from next season – although Chelsea are thought to want Batshuayi back at the club next year.
If Chelsea want to fight again for the title and aim to win it for the third time in five years, then a couple of key areas have to be addressed in order to strengthen the team. So, if the board do decide to offload the striker, the Blues would be wise to invest the money into the team’s weak areas.
Whether that happens or not, though, change is needed this summer in the form of new arrivals within the team and Abramovich needs to bring Conte these 2 stars…
