Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking to be involved in a little Napoli-Chelsea merry go round of players and former managers. With a revamp at the club long been touted in the summer, this could be a turning point in the clubs history.
One of the recent names that are rumoured with a move away is out of favour centre-back David Luiz, not something of a surprise after a few bust-ups with manager Antonio Conte. The Brazilian is a supposed target for Napoli, on the basis that former Blues boss Rafa Benitez moves there from Newcastle and with current Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri being tipped as the new man at Stamford Bridge, he could bring central defender Kaldiou Koulibaly with him, in a huge merry go round of movement.
Chelsea are currently fifth in the league and after two disastrous windows, the Blues board should be looking to strengthen and rejuvenate the pack as quickly as possible.
Our landlord believes, however, that by bringing in this defensive star to Stamford Bridge to directly replace the possibly outgoing Luiz would be a smart move on their part…
OUR VERDICT – Harry Maguire
With David Luiz possible outgoing transfer, it could be the perfect time to look for an English replacement for the Brazilian to create a new, young and exciting defensive partnership with Andreas Christensen. None come better at the moment than the Foxes’ Harry Maguire. He is destined for a move to a top-six club soon and Chelsea would do well to try and beat all their rivals for his signature this summer.
A consistent centre-back, Maguire is importantly homegrown, which would be a rarity at the Blues and would offer a great future for the club.
