Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting some outgoings as well as incomings this summer window, as the team look set for a big 2018/19 season.
Jurgen Klopp got the top of his list checked off on January 1st by signing long-term target Virgil Van Dijk at long last. Indeed, this was a much-needed reinforcement in the defence, something Liverpool have needed all season long. Such frailty is, what many of our regulars believe, had been holding them back from being a truly great team in the Premier League.
Now that they have the defensive cover and the team have looked really settled over the second half of the season, the next thing for the German should be seeing some deadwood released and a trim down of the squad in order to build it with a better quality of squad player.
Our barman and the landlord have been holding a long-winded discussion over a few Liverpool players that have simply not made the cut at Anfield, and after much deliberation, he has narrowed it down to this flop that FSG should be fully involved in selling ASAP…
OUR VERDICT – Danny Ings
The former Burnley striker’s time at Anfield has been doomed since the start, following two big injuries. Indeed, Ings hasn’t had the time or opportunity to carve out any type of fight for a first-team place at the Reds since breaking into the England set-up a couple of years ago.
Ings would be better off leaving in search of more regular football and rediscover the form that led him to earn a move to a big club in the first place. Having barely played, only a handful of times over the years, it’s going to take a gamble for a club to come in for him but his goal to game ratio, however little it is, is still good.Like what the TT have on offer?
