The Arsenal and Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were both relieved to get their swap deal over the line this week. Both sets of fans seem content with this deal. Arsenal avoid losing Alexis Sanchez for free in the summer and get a good player in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return. Meanwhile, Manchester United have snapped up the Chilean, who is a proven attacking talent in the Premier League.
And Manchester United are also reportedly eyeing a move for Mesut Ozil. The Germany international is out of contract in the summer and once again the Gunners are at risk of losing him for free. But if Arsene Wenger has already successfully negotiated the arrival of Mkhitaryan, perhaps he should ask for another player in return.
Juan Mata would be a like for like replacement for Ozil. The left-footed attacking midfielder is technically good on the ball and he can contribute with goals and assists. Manchester United have been using him less frequently this season and Jose Mourinho has already flogged him once, letting him leave Chelsea to join the Red Devils.
With Alexis Sanchez arriving, Mata could look for a way out of Manchester United. And with Mourinho chasing Ozil too, he could be forced even further down the pecking order. But the Spain international would fit in well at Arsenal as his game suits their style of play.
Mata is an appealing prospect for Arsenal because he has proven his credentials in the Premier League with many years at Chelsea and Manchester United. To avoid losing Ozil for nothing, another swap deal could be on the cards.
