Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting some big incomings in the summer months as the team look to push on from this season. However, unlike the winter window, they will be hoping to keep hold of their star man Sadio Mane.
Jurgen Klopp should be aiming to improve on the squad he already has for next season and would do well to build the team around the main man Mo Salah with back up attackers coming in to add some depth to the team.
However, the Reds in the bar will be concerned about the latest rumours flying around over a potential move for the Senegalese international to the European giant club, Real Madrid. Indeed, by what our barman has been saying, he’s had a tremendous season last year as part of Liverpool’s dangerous trio, with the forward grabbing 20 goals last season and is one of the Reds’ constant high performers.
With his ability to play on the left and cut inside to the middle of the front three, it’s no wonder Mane is gaining so many admirers. Although our landlord thinks that Klopp should be keeping tabs on these TWO players to replace Mane should he move on…
OUR VERDICT – Florian Thauvin & Manuel Lanzini
The 25-year-old Frenchman has had a fantastic season in Ligue 1 with Marseille. Following a very short spell at Newcastle United a couple of seasons back, Thauvin returned to his native homeland and has consistently improved ever since, as he starts to fulfil his potential as a forward that he looked as a youngster.
Thauvin can play across the front line if needed but his best and most prolific position is on the right, similar to Salah. Thauvin has thrived and this is where he has scored 26 goals and assisted 18 in his 54 games across all competitions last season. With previous Premier League experience added to his arsenal, the forward-thinking winger may be a smart move in the summer.
In Lanzini, the West Ham man shone last season when he’s had the chance to. Of course, having been in and out the team due to injury, it’s not been an ideal campaign, though one during which he’s been touted with a move to Anfield. The Argentine is a much-loved figure at the Hammers, but for him to move on with his career, a step up in class may be the stage the 25-year-old needs to take himself and his career to the next level.
Assisting is largely his game, though he also has the ability to grab a goal or two when presented with the chance, as we’ve seen in the pub on several occasions this season.
