If Sarri doesn’t change, Andreas Christensen will surely leave Chelsea

Few players have suffered more as a result of Maurizio Sarri’s arrival than Andreas Christensen. A regular under Antonio Conte, the Danish defender suffered a poor run of form towards the end of last season, and that clearly didn’t go unnoticed by Maurizio Sarri.

Christensen hasn’t started a single league game so far this season, with Sarri instead preferring to utilise David Luiz.

It’s a curious decision, especially given the sort of player that Luiz is. Though, granted, he’s brilliant with the ball at his feet, the Brazilian has always been a player that comes with lots of risk. Between his risky passes, regular mistakes or moments of pure idiocy, the 30-year-old hasn’t ever been a reliable player.

Christensen, meanwhile, generally speaking, has been far more solid. Mistakes have been few and far between, whilst his technical ability is also second-to-none. Granted, he had a poor spell last year, but as a young player that was always going to happen – and that shouldn’t be used as a judge of the quality that he possesses.

Not to mention, at just 22-years-old, the Dane is a player that is constantly improving, and so he’ll no doubt get better this season and look to cut out the poor spells of form that he has suffered from in the past.

Make no mistake, if he decided to leave, he’d have no shortage of suitors, and he’d likely get his pick of many a top club. With a passing accuracy of over 93% last season, he’s the perfect modern defender – and if Sarri doesn’t rate him, someone else will.
