Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for some new faces in the door come summertime and the addition of a class defender is a high priority if they have ambitions of finally winning the Premier League after a five-year wait.
Toby Alderweireld is looking likely to leave Spurs soon as he is struggling to regain his first-team place in the team alongside tough contract talks. Jose Mourinho desperately needs a centre-back to play alongside Eric Bailly next season, with the current crop not pulling the socks up enough to warrant a regular spot, so a move for the Belgian would make total sense.
If the Red Devils are to inch closer to Man City next season, then a few additions to the squad is simply a must for Mourinho. With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the winter, many in the bar feel that the main focus should now be on the back line and trying to balance up the team.
With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at which other player would be the final piece in the Mourinho jigsaw that should follow the Belgian to Old Trafford this coming summer…
OUR VERDICT – Toni Kroos
Toni Kroos is probably one of the only players who can come into the side and potentially replace the retiring Michael Carrick. A player to link the defence to the attack is just the type of player United need, and in Kroos that could have such a player to hand.
Kroos doesn’t have to prove himself on any stage, however, having watched him in different leagues Mourinho knows he is easily adaptable.
Indeed, he would certainly push United on to the next level in the Premier League.
